Internal Materials

The Casper Mattress’s internal construction consists of three layers of foam.  Standing at 10″ tall, Casper mattress features a layer of memory foam to eliminate pressure points.

Top Layer | Designed For Comfort & Cooling
1.5″ Layer of latex foam
Layer Features: Absorbing bounce, comfort and cooling

Middle Layer | Designed For Support
1.5″ Layer of memory foam
Layer Features: Eliminates pressure points, reduces body heat retention

Bottom Layer | Designed For Foundation
7″ Layer of foundation foam
Layer Features: Semi-dense foundational foam

Major Key: Casper offers a hybrid between latex and memory foam.  Through our research and review process we found that when testing with two ‘heavier’ individuals they didn’t feel the same support as on some competing mattresses.

Cover Materials

Top Cover | Thin, Soft, Stretchy
The cover is composed of a single piece of fabric that we found rather thin but permeable.  This helps with cooling and breathability, but we found to be prone to ripping.

Side Cover | Classic & Recognizable
The Casper’s trademark design with the gray sides and distinguishable logo provide a modern design when compared to a standard innerspring mattress side panel.

Major Key: When evaluating the cover we found that the Casper Mattress doesn’t not have very strong edge support.  Picture sitting at the end of your bed to put socks on.  We found a 4″ – 5″ sink.  This is only important if you like to sleep near the edge of your bed as you will not have complete support.

★★★★★ Great Mattress

We bought a Casper a little under a year ago and haven’t regretted it since. We were upgrading our queen to a king because we have a dog that prefers to share our bed to his own and my husband needed a firmer mattress than the one we had (he’s missing 3 discs in his back). After shopping for mattresses and being pretty befuddled by all the different types and options that all seemed the same but were way too expensive for us I saw stuff about Casper and other similar companies. I wasn’t psyched about paying that much money for something I couldn’t see, let alone sit on in person, but I read a lot of reviews and watched all the review videos I could find and finally the 100 day money back guarantee was enough to encourage us to give it a try especially if it meant we didn’t have to go back to a mattress store and feel like Goldilocks. Our 100 day mark came and went without us questioning whether to keep the mattress or not. We love it

Pros:
-The company’s customer support is really good and truly interested in whether you’re liking your new bed.
-The company has a referral program, which means you can save a bit on your mattress and earn some money in return.
-100 day money back policy, makes it a great way to test out the mattress in your home.
-Truly a comfortable mattress
-A hip company that doesn’t make you feel like you’re getting swindled simply because you never learned the art of negotiating with car or mattress companies.

Cons:
-There is only one option. For me in making the decision to buy this was a big one. My husband likes firm beds and I like super soft beds so I was worried one of us was going to be very disappointed. However, the customer service rep was truly interested in making the bed perfect for both of us and when I explained I like softer mattresses she sent me a pillow-top cushion that continued to give my husband the firm support he needed while adding a layer of softness to the top of the mattress so I would enjoy it too.
-Would have like laying on it prior to buying it, but they now have some popup stores to allow for that

★★★★★ and ended up sleeping horribly. After reporting this

When I first received the mattress, I could tell right away that it was going to be too firm for my liking. I e-mailed the customer service department, and they told me to try it out for a couple of weeks. I did this, and ended up sleeping horribly. After reporting this, they sent me the free mattress topper, which made the mattress a little softer. I have been sleeping great due to the addition of this topper, and I love my new bed! I would recommend this mattress to anyone, although I do not like that they ask you to try it out for a couple of weeks to see whether or not you need the topper. I know what kind of bed I sleep well on, and do not need to wait for my “back muscles to adjust” to the mattress (as stated in the response I received). However, their customer service department is the best of any company I’ve ever interacted with. They informed me that my mattress would be shipping late, and comped me for an air mattress that I bought. They are also very prompt in getting back to you. I would highly recommend this product to anyone (with the addition of the mattress topper if you are not a fan of firm beds).

★★★★★ Casper mattress helps us sleep better!

My husband and I love our Casper mattress! My husband has always had trouble sleeping, and we had been looking for a new bed for several years. Since we got the Casper mattress he has been sleeping really well (we both have). I would recommend it to anyone!

★★★★★ Paralysis by awesomeness. It's THAT good...

When was the last time you legitimately smiled for days.. no, weeks, no… months at a time looking forward to going to bed at night KNOWING your mattress is comfortable and supportive and makes you wake up with a smile on your face? Have owned my Casper for over a year now, and to this day it’s out of this world incredible. For a taller, svelte person like me, it doesn’t sink too deep – neither does it stay stiff and force me to roll and adjust. Five stars, and five high-fives. Get it. Try it. You’ll love it.

★★★★ Current Issue with quality control...but the customer service is 4 stars.

Saying that, the mattress felt great! I’m 260lbs, my brothers is 180lbs, and my wife is 150lbs and all of use thought this to be a firm mattress with a soft upper layer with enough give to be comfortably supportive. We used it for about 12 days on the floor before our frame came in which was a elite folding metal frame from amazon. It felt just as great as it did on the floor. After 30 days we finally called as the soft spot wasn’t going away and it was noticeable to everyone who laid on it and it would have gotten worse over the years, so it had to be addressed. We called and we where told to email support with pictures. Within 24 hours they replied to our email and they had sent out a new mattress! Awesome! I mean the customer service was on point at every point in our purchase!

We got the second mattress…cracked it open….and there was a large tear or cut on the bottom of the mattress cover. Again not a deal breaker, I thought ill just remove the cover from the original bed and use that i thought. Then I noticed the covers themselves are completely different in build and make. One cover had a completely removable zip off section while the others zip section was sewn in a way the zipper couldn’t be removed all the way, the tags where sewn differently in the covers as in placement and some internal material was sewn differently. Now these where supposedly made within the same 30 days in the same factory according to the tags. When I got the covers off I noticed the the mattresses to be not uniform on the inside as well. They had this soft cotton like secondary shell which on the new one was sewn all the way around…poorly….leaving lots of extra fabric all around the corners heaped up in the edges of the mattress. The original mattress had the same shell…..HALFWAY sewn around..as in the material was only on the top of the mattress while the bottom was not, with the top part being attached via clothing tag holders…those little plastic tag things you get on shirts that holds the price tags on :/…..i was still ok with it.. i mean i didn’t notice when i was sleeping on it so whats the harm….right?

Then I finally set up the second bed and got the cover on and was ready to lay in it……..then I got realty upset…you could completely feel our new frame through the bed when you sat or laid on it. he original bed wasn’t even remotely this soft. I’m going to email them again and see where this goes, because at this point quality control is in question and we had to use the original mattress to sleep on as the replacement is just way to soft. Will update with more data and pictures as this continues. Thus far they are very good at customer service, but the product is seeming over hyped and lacking any sort of uniformity or quality control from what I have seen.

★★★★ Firm Foam Mattress

I finally pulled the trigger for a king size after it was reviewed in the latest consumer ratings and review magazine (you know which one) and fared well. I chose the Casper because it was rated towards the firm side and I hated our soft pillowtop mattress that developed large craters and destroyed my back. After sleeping on the Casper for a few nights, I can confirm that it is indeed a firm mattress. I like it but my wife hates it. We’ve agreed to sleep on it for a month or two and determine whether we will keep it then.

This is NOT your typical memory foam mattress. You don’t sink in and become trapped because the top layer is springy latex foam. It feels surprisingly close to an inner spring mattress but without any hard points due to the springs. The mattress expanded immediately after removal from the bag and there was very little smell. It feels marginally warmer than our pillowtop mattress that this replaced. Because the top layer of foam is dense latex, it doesn’t absorb movement or vibrations very well (about the same as our inner spring mattress). No jumping on the bed with a glass of wine here.

It seems you need to have a link from a friend or acquaintance to get the $50 discount. I would prefer Casper just to drop the price by $50 and do away with the hunting for a link, although they do say that most of their business is through referrals. There is incentive to get people to use your link as you both get $50, although the referral discount is capped so you can’t get the mattress for free.

I’ll write back after a month or two and see how we like it. Again, this is definitely a firm mattress and doesn’t feel as soft as other “memory foam” mattresses. If this is what you are looking for, you will probably enjoy this mattress.

★★★ Whether you find this mattress comfortable or not will depend a great deal on your WEIGHT!!!

Whether you find this mattress comfortable or not will depend a great deal on your WEIGHT!!!

I’m thin, which means sleeping on the Casper is like sleeping on a concrete slab. My husband (190 lbs) is much heavier than me and thinks this mattress (with the additional mattress pad/topper) is absolutely perfect. Other reviews and websites have found the same thing. Smaller people (i.e., around 110 lbs or less) tend to find the mattress uncomfortably firm/hard, and “normal”-sized people (e.g., 130-200 lbs) found Casper to be just right. Heavy people (i.e., with weights exceeding 230 lbs) seem to find the mattress offers too little support over the long term.

The firmness of the mattress means lots of hip and back pain for me, especially when I sleep on my sides. My husband experiences no such pain.

So, if I were to rate this mattress, I would give it a one star. My husband, however, thinks it’s a great mattress and would give it five stars. Consequently, our overall rating the average of the two: three stars.

★★ I REALLY wanted to love the Casper

I REALLY wanted to love the Casper. The idea is genius, the presentation is minimalist and great, and mattress is good quality. But I just don’t find it very comfortable. It’s firm, man. I mean real firm, if you like a medium soft to really soft mattress, this isn’t for you. I’m not opposed to firm , but this is so firm that is doesn’t support my back very well. I’m a back sleeper, and when a lay down flat, by butt and mid back touch the mattress, but my lower back does not, it’s completely unsupported and is left feeling strained. I called customer service shortly before my 90-day trial was up, and told them this, and they told me my back “just wasn’t used to the mattress.” I believed it, and here I am beyond my trial stuck with a mattress I can’t sleep on. My husband is on one couch, I’m on another. If I could do it over, I would probably try to buy a Casper-esque mattress that you can try out before you buy.

★ BUYER BEWARE - UNLESS YOU ARE A VAMPIRE

We ordered this mattress direct from Casper, and since it’s commonly known that they “filter” their reviews, I’m putting mine on Amazon. This mattress is THE WORST. We had it for only 3 nights before we put our 7yr old Tempur-Pedic back on our bed and promptly emailed Casper for a refund and pick-up. This has to be one of the worst mattresses we’ve ever NOT slept on. It’s rock hard, has no give to it whatsoever, and feels like a cheap kids mattress you would get in the 80s (that I slept on in the 80s because I was a kid and knew nothing!). Whoever has been rating this mattress 4 stars and up is either a vampire or sleeps on a slab of concrete every night. I woke up every time I needed to roll over as my arms were actually going numb, and twice I got pins and needles in my arms from sleeping on my side (each side!). Not to mention the back pain I experienced got worse and worse every night I slept on this mattress. After 3 nights my husband’s back and hips were in a horrible state and he could barely lift our 2yr old daughter, let alone take the dog for his morning walk. Needless to say we managed to put our original mattress back on our bed and had the best night’s sleep since the Casper box arrived on our doorstep. (it’s just a bit old, and not my favorite, hence a new mattress) We’ve since contacted Casper for a refund, to which they quickly and easily agreed to, and have ordered a new Tempur-Pedic Flex mattress from the Brick (in Canada after all). Casper is working on a pick up solution for the mattress, and though I pity the poor fool who has to sleep on it, at least it will go to someone who needs it.

I have a hard time believing all the good reviews out there, and personally think they are paid for reviews. Maybe we just need a softer bed (which we are getting), but really, this bed was TERRIBLE. And it looks and feels cheap. You do get what you pay for…
