Internal Materials

The Leesa mattress has become a well-known brand with their recent launch of TV commercials.  The mattress is built well with three different layers.

Top Layer | Designed For Cooling Airflow
2” Layer of Avena foam
Layer Features: Bounce, airflow, and cooling

Middle Layer | Designed For Support
2″ Layer of memory foam
Layer Features: Eliminates pressure points and provides support

Bottom Layer | Designed For Foundation
6″ Layer of foundation foam
Layer Features: High-density foundation foam

Major Key:  The Leesa mattress provides a solid nights sleep using Avena foam rather than latex.  Avena foam is a durable sleep surface while still providing airflow.

Cover Materials

Top Cover | Artistic Design
The signature four bar design top cover is made from a poly-lycra blend.

Side Cover | Artistic Design
This side panels of the cover are made from the same poly-lycra blend material as used on the top.

Major Key: We found this single piece of fabric strong, yet pliable.

Leesa Company History

Leesa was started by two entrepreneurs, David Wolfe and Jamie Diamondstein.  They approached a friend and long-time industry veteran and asked, “If you could redesign the mattress and reinvent the sleep experience, what would you do?” His response was “I’d simplify it and take out all the “stuff” we’ve been adding for years to justify higher prices.”

★★★★★ Now I love it! My family loves it too

Felt odd at first … Almost too soft. Then after a month I got used to the softness. Now I love it! My family loves it too. We are all getting one.
I give it 9.5 out of ten. And I’m the kind of person that will try every mattress in six stores and leave empty handed if it doesn’t feel right.

I like how it doesn’t create holes or dents. I’ve had mine since March, still feels like the first day it came, and I’m not a small person. It’s soft but not overly soft like expensive memory foam beds. I hate hot beds; and, I don’t feel hot at night (& it gets up to 110f where I live). I wake up all cozy, like Cinderella should be singing with her birds or something.

Only thing is…
I would be cautious if your a stomach sleeper, because it sinks in and doesn’t allow for full back support. When I watch netflix on my stomach, I often feel like I’m looking up at my screen. But I sleep in every position at night- favoring my stomach, and it doesn’t bother me one bit. Only when I watch tv 😉

I would recommend you try it. If you don’t like it, send it back. No harm done 🙂

★★★★★ It is everything we hoped for

I ordered a Leesa mattress for two reasons – Consumer Reports gave it an excellent durability rating, and through the user comments I learned some of the advantages of Leesa over others, which all turned out to be true. When you’re sitting on the side the bed, it doesn’t cave in. It has a medium firmness which is a perfect compromise between me and my wife. I am big, 6′ 5″ and 275 lbs and it still supports me on my side or back. It isn’t hot at all either. This Leesa mattress has made quite a difference from our 15 year old Simmons pillowtop. We no longer wake up sore in the morning from our mattress.

★★★★★ Great mattress

Been sleeping on this for 7 months now, and it’s still very comfortable. My wife says it’s the best mattress she ever slept on, and for me it’s roughly tied with a $3000 latex mattress I used to have.

★★★★★ Strong Buy (and don't worry)

Its a great mattress not sorry I bought it. Its a bit soft on top, I think they got a good mix of soft and firm. I cant believe anyone who says it too firm, if anything it could be firmer for me. I’m not a mattress drama queen, so I’ll just say – you cant really go wrong buying this, its worth the money, compared to competitors. Don’t look back.

★★★★ NOT a life-changer, but OVERALL... SATISFIED and happy!!!

This will actually be my first review for amazon…. I felt the Leesa Mattress would be the one I do first.
I have to say, the mattress is decent to good! The shipping was incredibly fast. It arrived earlier than the estimated arrival date given by amazon.

After watching a lot of youtube videos on the mattress I decided to give it a shot. It looked pretty good from the reviews.

For my review, I would like to really start off by saying that I have been through about 3 mattresses within the last year and a half. I moved with a uhaul so all my mattresses could have come with me but I swapped them out (selling them) because I couldn’t find a mattress I liked. I have had restless nights – have tried PRICEY pillow-top mattresses from the mattress store, that was too soft and had a permanent dent within 2-3 months. With the sleepless nights, I was told that FIRM beds were better for you and as I was waking up with occasional ‘aches and pains’ from the pillow top, i tried going to a FIRM mattress….. That was a fail too. I tried buying a memory foam top to try to get that ‘therapeutic’ effect that they’re famously acclaimed for….. but my nights were still eh…. minimum 4 hours to the max 6 hours! I’m in good standing health, I would say i’m an athletically built 5’11” male weighing in at 220lbs that just seemed to not really be able to find a mattress that did it for me. Sleeping was NOT enjoyable, nor was it ‘that’ bad…. just whatever.

★★★★ Runs hot but otherwise a very good mattress

There is a lot to like about this mattress, so I’m going to lead with the major drawback, which anyone considering this purchase should take into account: since it’s essentially a memory foam mattress, it retains and radiates heat pretty strongly. Even with a mattress protection layer between the sheets and the mattress itself, the mattress can heat up quite a bit (and a lot more than a more standard mattress). If that’s not an issue for you then this is the mattress you want. But if it is definitely avoid this one. It’s enough of an issue for me that I feel it must be mentioned, but not so much of an issue that I dislike this mattress, because:

1) It’s very easy to get in the mail and put into place. It’s compressed into a relatively small box – all you have to do is open it, unroll it and lay it in place and it will slowly expand into place. Very convenient (and no issue of smell or anything). Only takes around an hour to expand.
2) The amount of movement that translates across the mattress when someone moves on the other side is minimized. This is especially important in our house as we have an infant who occasionally sleeps in the bed with us. With our old king mattress any time either of us got up it would disturb him – this one allows us to get in and out of bed without him noticing.
3) It’s not as thick as other mattresses – this may be a minimal plus, but it’s nice to have sheets fit all the way around it, vs the previous pillowtop mattress we had with built in springs was a little too tall for some sheets.
4) It’s got a nice firmness to it, but the memory foam means that it still adapts to your shape in the right places. It’s a comfortable mattress for both back and side sleeping.

★★★ Great company, mattress could use improvement

Should start off with a disclaimer that we ended up returning ours after 30 days. I was actually ok with it but my wife thought it was too firm and hated that the sides have no structure. We were replacing a 4-5 year old Serta iComfort that had developed a depression on one side that was causing me lower back pain. Just to note I’m about 190lbs and my wife is close to 135lbs, so not small people, not huge either. Typical overweight 40 year old’s with kids.

The mattress was delivered to the front door with no issues. I was able to wrestle it up the stairs which is not easy considering the weight of a king size but it was manageable. If I were in my 50+ I probably wouldn’t have been able to. Unbox it, cut the plastic liner and unroll. We were placing this on a platform bed with newer slats. The mattress took a few hours to expand, very little off gassing compared to others. It never expanded to it’s full height of 10 inches. I did measure and compare against our old mattress, 8.5 was about it.

The top part of the cover of the mattress is nice, what I would expect on a higher end model. The bottom part is extremely thin and ripped easily. Leesa could spend a bit more on that.

Mattress’s are subjective. I’m a side sleeper and actually liked it. My wife who is a back sleeper and likes a firm mattress thought it was too firm so idk. I would rate this as a medium firm, just to note I was previously sleeping on the floor occasionally since I had lower back pain with our old mattress so maybe I’m just used to a hard surface.

5 stars for the customer support and the company overall. When I called to return they were pleasant to talk too, just asked a few questions what we didn’t like and did like. It was clear that they weren’t trying to argue us out of a return but focusing on improving the product. The return was arranged and we received a refund a few days after pickup. Unfortunately Salvation Army in our area isn’t taking in the mattress so a recycler had to pick it up. I do have to sort of question their business model. Guessing the markup is quite high considering the return policy.

What would make Leesa a better mattress? Some structure on the side would have gone a long way, especially when you have two adults in the bed. Handles on the side would have been nice when moving it, it’s not easy to move, very floppy. More models with varying firmness as well. I know they’re trying to aim for the middle ground but mattress are so subjective.

We ended up replacing it with a Tempurpedic Hybrid bought locally which I absolutely hate as it’s too firm and giving me upper back pain so we’re in the process of returning/exchanging that one.

Check the return policy of buying on Amazon vs directly from Leesa. Buying from Leesa you have a longer return policy, same free shipping etc. I don’t really see any benefit to buying from Amazon if you live in the continental US.

IMHO, I think this is a great mattress for guest rooms, vacation homes, single people and kids, not so great in a king size for a middle aged couple.

★★ Lasted about 1 year

We have owned this for less than 1 year and at this point both my wife and myself can not stand to sleep on this waking every morning with sore back, neck, pressure points and other issues. After a recent trip sleeping on another mattress and waking each morning with no issues brought us to the conclusion we had unfortunately wasted our money on this and of course regret we did not return it within the allotted time. We have now ordered another mattress from a different company and can only recommend that our mattress went from OK to absolute misery in less than a year, hopefully if you purchase it you will have better results.

★ Not for heavier people!!

My husband and I have been using this mattress since we bought it in August (for 5 months). And last night was the last night I will sleep on it. My husband weighs about 200 pounds, I weigh about 130. When we sleep on this mattress, a crevice is created around my husband and I find myself rolling downward. I have to sleep right on the edge of the bed to get any level ground and then I’m almost hanging off the bed. It’s horrible. Maybe for a couple who are both my size it would work, but if one or both of you is a larger person, this is NOT the mattress for you and I would recommend instead a spring/coil mattress.

Overall I really liked the Leesa – it’s one of the more comfortable mattresses that I’ve slept on, and their online-only model lets them provide a lot of value to customers. Message me in the comments if you have any follow-up questions.

The top layer is Avena foam, which is a polyurethane foam that feels a lot like memory foam, however it springs back a little more quickly, almost like latex. It also helps prevent the mattress from sleeping hot (I had no issue with it).

The mattress is ever so slightly firmer than average, so it’s at a firmness level where you could sleep on it comfortably in any position, even as a stomach sleeper.

The mattress is not a good fit for someone that really likes spring mattresses. It also may not be the best fit if you are very overweight or very light, in that it’s catering more to the average sized person. They only have one firmness level, so they’re really targeting more of an average sleeper, rather than someone with a strong preference that deviates from the average.

Overall I definitely recommend the mattress, and think that it’s a great option for many sleepers. They also have a 100 day refund policy, so there is really no financial risk. Let me know if you end up buying and what you think of the product!

I really liked the Leesa after sleeping on it for 5 weeks. The top layer of Avena foam is similar to latex, in that it offers the supportive feel without sleeping hot. Plus the mattress has a bit more “spring” to it, certainly more than memory foam. You can see the spring in my unboxing video as well.

Leesa is sold only online, so the price is significantly lower than mattresses sold in stores (they avoid costs like showroom rent, salesmen, additional shipping, inventory, etc). There are a number of other mattress companies that have recently become popular by selling their mattresses exclusively online. These companies promote transparency in the market an value, which are of course appreciated by customers in any product category.

This is the second part of my Leesa mattress review. We’ve been sleeping on the mattress for a couple of months so I’m finally able to give an honest opinion on it.

Leesa’s mattress has 12cm of dense core foam, a layer of memory foam that contours to your body, making it great for any body shape and size and a cooling layer at the top too, for a restful night’s sleep. It’s exterior has a four stripe design with a silky soft touch. The best part is that it is delivered air-tightly packaged, which means it’s easily transportable. #BetterSleep
